In our first lesson, we started looking at what would make a successful music video and what we need to consider in terms of the different elements required to create a good music video. After discussions, we have agreed that these main elements are as follows:
Camerawork - For this, we would need to use a range of different shots and angles to convey different emotions as well as make it appear extremely professional. For example, the shots we would use for a performance shot to a narrative shot would be different.
Mise-en-scene - This will be absolutely key to our video looking how we want it to. In particular, we need to ensure that for both the performance and narrative, we make the costume and setting perfect for the shots we will obtain. E.g. band wearing clothing that you would expect band members to wear.
A clever narrative - Making sure that what we have in terms of a story is something which not only makes sense, but also fits in with band footage and allows us to tells a story which not only intrigues the viewer but also provokes thought.
Performance - We need to assemble a group of people who look like band material and have a reasonable ability to play an instrument. Even more important still, they need to look like they can play an instrument as it will not mater what it sounds like but how it looks.
We discussed his elements that we believe would be essential to think about when producing the video and created a mind map, brain storming all of our ideas onto a page of A4.
This will be really important and helpful for us to look back on as a group throughout the project to ensure that our music video meets all of the criteria that we came up with for a successful music video.
