In the videos that we analysed, we noticed many brilliant uses of mise-en-scene. Generally, the videos tend to have settings which emulate the emotions in the shot, e.g. rain being seen in a shot of someone being unhappy or a dark alleyway could represent uncertainty and crime. It's props tend to be plot devices within the narratives and so play a big part within the video itself. The instruments must also be what is used in the song or they appear out of place and odd.
The costume says a lot about the characters in the videos, with the clothing ultimately deciding their appearance and this in a music video which says a lot about the type of character and their personalities. The hair and make-up, in particular with the female characters also plays a big part in giving the audience an impression of that character as it can be used, not just as a fashion statement but to add to the emotion being conveyed from them.
In terms of costuming for the band, we have looked at a few images of Fall Out Boy to gain an understanding about what they typically wear to perform and when they are shooting their music videos. We will definitely be thinking about this when we come to decide on costumes for our band members.
From the music videos which we have seen, the facial expressions tend to be something which can add another dimension of emotion, especially in the close-up shots rather than a mid-shot for example. Body language is also important, especially in our video as the main concept is about a relationship so having characters who appear to be in love need to appear in that way.
Lighting and colour is something which we could also implement with light and dark in particular being something which we could do in order to emphasise the moods going on in scenes. Colour itself has many emotions associated to it and so it would make sense to use this subtly to add to our scenes.
Positioning characters and composition within the frame are things which are extremely important, for example, the way in which the background can be seen in our shots that we're planning on needs to look in place or it will look odd to the audience.
